Second review: Ghett'a Life
I have to say that in the begginig i didn't get the meaning of the movie, but later i get it and was good, i really enjoy it and has a good message, also the music was amazing too, well now i will start the review haha.
1. Who was your favorite character (s) from the film? Why?
I think that defnitelly my favourite character was the derrick's Mother cause she was amazing and great in so many ways, for example she wasn't afraid to oppose her husband, she was strong and defnitely she wanted the best for her child.
In the movies theres no so many women that stand out from the crowd, but in this case was different cause we have the oportunity to saw someone like her.
Also i want to make an special announcement to Derrick thjat wasn't my favouirte character but he really was a good character, he fight for something that he love and want, he was very persistent and also very woke cause he find the bad things behind the boxing.
2. How do we see the political conflict portrayed in the film?
Well the article says that once upon a time so violence in eveywhere, politic violence, and it shows caus since the beginning of the movie we can saw two grupos of people that were fighitng each others, reading the text now i know is because them belong to differente partys the People National and the Jamaican Labour.
Obviosly Derrick's familys belong to one so thats explain the violence that he gets.
3. How are woman portrayed in this film? Is it a little or big advancement compared to The Harder They Come?
In this movie was differente in a betetr way, cause even if we don't saw so many women characters at least theres one that it shows a side of what is the meaning of being a Jamaican woman and thats is the Derrcik's mother.
She has more screentime than other women in the movies that we saw and thats good cause she wasn't this obedient wife.
In another side even if she was this women with attitude, she always was on the house "being a Jamaican woman" an thats is very sexism, we don't have women, independed women, like heroes, always the man is the main character.
At least we have more pressence in her ethan in harder they come uwu.
Dawn Thompson is my favorite character too! I think she was such a brave woman, she had to face terrible things just for the happiness of her son. Definitely an amazing person.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Dawn Thompson deserved so much more time on screen, because she is a very important character in the film. Thanks to her Derrick find his motivation to keep on boxing and she always support him, even hiding him from the gangsters and getting shot for him. She is a vital part of the story and i really felt like her character could be even more important if they just showed up her a little bit more on screen.

DeleteI liked derrick a lot but also think that Dawn deserves her own trama and independence of her male family!!!
