Review N°1: The harder they come

Hi everyone, it's me again, in this case i have anoher subject "the jamaican culture" and this is the first movie revie about the movie The harder they come.
( this is the fourth blog that i create for benjy hahah)

1. In general, what did you like and dislike about the film

Honestly the most entertainer thing for me in the movie was the music, i mean, since the first second of te mlvie they played music and i was moving mi head from one side to another cause was really good music.
Is really interesting seing how the reggae started in Jamaica, and even more in a movie like this. We can saw that a lot of peple has a desire to do that kind of music, they tried, but just a few has the succes.

The thing that i didn't like was that i feelt sometimes that the movie has so many "relleno", things that were no necesary to put on the movie, so obviously with that the movie was so slow at least for me.
The other thing that i didn't enojy was the characteres, in my opinion theres no so many characteres taht stand out from the crowd beside the main one, and i always said that i prefer the movies, series or book where exist a lot of people and in this case wasn't.

 2. Who is your favorite character from the film?

How i said before, for me theres no so many characteres that stand out, so honestly i don't have a favorite, cause for example, the main one Ivan Matin was a good one, i really apreciate his personality and his perseverance with the things that he wanted, for example with the music, he really wnated to do and put so much effor in that, but a the same time he seems so  maddening, his attitude sometimes was so obnoxious and i can't with him, i quick hahaha.

3. Would you recommend this film to someone, why/why not?

I love all the types of musical movies, so obviously i would recommend because of that, i know a lot of people that like that genre of music so im pretty sure that they will enjoy it.
I also recommend cause its a part of the jamaican cultura and if someone wants to study or know a lot more of that country this movie is a really good way to start cause the music involve you and give you more  craving to see the movie.

Also i think that is good to warn people, cause sometimes the movie is slow and the languaje could make this harder to understand.

4. How does this film contribute to postcolonial identity?

Well i think theres no so many countries that have an specific genre of music, and Jamaica is the opposite, i mean, reggae its part of the culture and the histoy of Jamaica, so obviously in that way contribute to the identity.
Also the images, i mena, the places, the faces, and all the things that we have oportunity to saw in the movie are important t the indentity cause right now we know how the country was and the problem and issues that  they have to suffer.
Finally, with the languaje cause show us that exist a lot of ways to talk and word depend of where you come, so this is an example that the Inglish as we already know it's not the same that the people of jamaica talk  back then.

Comments

  1. It's great that you enjoyed the music, I loved it too.

The fact that the movie is named The Harder They Come just because that's how Jimmy Cliff (the protagonist) named the song he sings just shows how prominent is reggae music in this film.
